PAD and pain therapy · physician-prescribed

DUCEST Neurostimulation.Lasting benefit for pain and blood flow.

A minimally invasive, drug-free Class 2a therapy that stimulates afferent nerve pathways at the ear — an adjunct therapy to increase transcutaneous oxygen partial pressure as part of treating peripheral arterial disease, and for pain therapy.

Therapy packages

Proven methods remain the best therapy.
Innovative, clinically tested approaches complement them.

01

DUCEST Neurostimulation Therapy

A conservative treatment for PAD patients. Extends walking distance well beyond baseline and supports wound healing.

02

DUCEST Combination Therapy

Improved tissue regeneration for chronic wounds by combining DUCEST Neurostimulation with the topical application of Vivostat (platelet-rich fibrin).

03

DUCEST Neurostimulator

An integral part of every therapy package. Its mechanism of action relies on stimulating afferent branches of the auricular branch of the vagus nerve, the great auricular nerve (GAN), and the brainstem.

04

DUCEST Pain Therapy

Activates anti-inflammatory mechanisms to reduce pain. Improvement in polyneuropathy is frequently observed, with a drug-free approach and few side effects.

Illustration of the signal pathway: vagus nerve to brainstem, which controls arteriole movement
Mechanism of action

A signal that improves blood flow and pain processing.

Every nerve pathway in the outer ear is purely afferent. The DUCEST Neurostimulator acts on the great auricular nerve (GAN) at the fossa triangularis — from there, the signal travels via the C2 and C3 vertebrae to the nucleus tractus solitarii in the brainstem, a nucleus this nerve shares with the vagus nerve.

Vagus nerve

Stimulating afferent nerve pathways at the ear improves microcirculation through arterioles in the extremities via the brainstem — the same pathway the vagus nerve itself uses.

Arterioles

The brainstem influences the intensity and rhythm of arteriole movement through neurotransmitters — shaping blood flow down to the finest capillaries.

Easy2apply

Simple to apply, safe for everyday life.

Application is minimally invasive and quick. The neurostimulator is set by the physician and then accompanies the patient discreetly through everyday life — as an inpatient or outpatient treatment.

  1. 01

    Placement at the ear

The physician places the fine needle electrode at the great auricular nerve.

  2. 02

    Fixation

The neurostimulator is fixed discreetly at the neck and stays securely in place.

  3. 03

    Individual adjustment

The physician tailors the stimulation strength to the patient.

  4. 04

    Worn day to day

Up to 21 days per device — splash-water protected to IP44, with no limitation on daily life.

The therapy formula

9 – 9 – 3

9weeks

The DUCEST Neurostimulation therapy runs for this long. In practice, the therapeutic effect lasts well beyond this period.

9needles

A new needle is used after 7 days at the latest, and the device is switched to the other ear.

3devices

A therapy package includes 3 DUCEST Neurostimulators. Each single-use device is worn for a maximum of 21 days.

Clinical evidence

Effectiveness backed by clinical research.

Two independent clinical studies support DUCEST Neurostimulation therapy.

Vagal stimulation in PAD patients

OA Dr. Thomas Payrits

Shows a significant increase in transcutaneous oxygen pressure (tcpO2) between the initial and final examination. ABI, SF-36 Health Survey, and walking-distance results confirm the therapeutic effect, alongside high patient compliance and good data quality.

Cytokine regulation via the brainstem

Andreas, Arzl, Mitterbauer, Ballarini, et al.

Provides the first evidence that afferent interval stimulation with the DUCEST Neurostimulator influences cytokine regulation via the brainstem.
